Continuing the series of interviews with top though leaders in aviation, I recently met with Prof John Hansman at his MIT office to learn about the future of airline business. And he didn’t have a lot of good news to share. He believes airlines will have to think out of the box and make radical changes to their business models, if they are to come out of the current crises successfully.

Prof Hansman is the Director of the International Center for Air Transportation, and teaches courses on Aircraft Systems and Design and The Airline Industry. Professor Hansman holds 6 U.S. Patents, and has authored over 250 technical publications. He conducts research in several areas related to air transportation, flight vehicle operations and safety. He has over 5000 hours of pilot in-command time in airplanes, helicopters and sailplanes, including meteorological, production and engineering flight test experience.

Here is his interview.

Do look out for an interview with Laura Reis (of the Reis & Reis fame) on airline branding. Exclusively on SimpliFlying.com, next Wednesday. If you prefer, you can just subscribe by email or RSS for regular updates.
