@arabianmark - Good point regarding alliances. I too hope to see at
least a couple of Middle East carriers get in to an alliance soon. And
I suspect GulfAir will be the first. Since till now, Royal Jordanian
is the only Middle Eastern carrier, and their former CEO is now
leading GulfAir.

The reality is LCC's are here to stay and most definitely in the Gulf! Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways are both "dogs" and are no different to many other legacy airlines. Who would of thought Sabena, Nigerian Airways, Varig all Government owned entities would be allowed to shut down? But they were and over the coming years many more will be forced to follow, shrink or be consumed. I recall reading an article in Airline Business in the early 90s about mega carriers, mega brands and mega alliances. The predictions were all correct The grand finale is One World, Star Alliance, Skyteam and maybe a one day a Gulf Alliance between EK and EY which will likely consume carriers such as GF and KU as they run out of stamina and look for a last saviour. Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways have no choice but to join an alliance. The sooner they wake-up the more chance they have of playing a strategic fit with one of the alliances groups Only recently Kingfisher Airlines of india announced its intent to join One World. the writing is on the wall!!
