Volaris headquarters – the coolest airline office in the world? #avgeek

Since starting SimpliFlying, I’ve managed to fly on 93 different airlines. While many ask me about my favorite airline or my favorite lounge, few know that through our work the SimpliFlying team has been to over 50 airline headquarters as well! We’ve seen lavishly designed offices of some of the airlines in the Middle East to decaying old buildings of some legacy airlines in Africa. We’ve even been to an airline office that was actually in shipping containers!

We at SimpliFlying have a thing for work culture. Very often, the airline’s office space is a true reflection of its culture. Whether the senior executives keep their doors closed or sit in the open with everyone else. Whether the walls are high or there are no walls. Whether there’s a proper pantry or a kitchen. Every single element of the office reflects company culture. How an airline treats its employees determines how the employees ultimately treat customers.

One of our favorite clients to work with has been Volaris – an ultra-low-cost airline based in Mexico. The airline moved to its new headquarters in 2014, designed by a local firm called SPACE. While my team had been there in 2015, I hadn’t visited the new office till a couple of months ago.

As I walked in to register at the reception, I didn’t find a desk. Rather, it was an airplane wing that the receptionist was sitting behind. She took out the visitor register from two airline trolleys behind her. The AvGeek in me was over the moon. I couldn’t wait to explore the rest of the office.

Over the subsequent visits to Volaris headquarters, I was given generous tours by the team, in addition to of course working in the office. The attention to detail was impressive – a runway that divided the office had accurate lighting. Lots of recycled airline parts were creatively used around the office. Airplane seats became meeting room chairs. Tires made for good tables, and even swings. They’ve even got sponsors like Coca Cola for different elements in the office.

Not only does the Volaris headquarters foster a culture of innovation and openness, it didn’t cost a fortune to put together as well. Since most of the “furniture” is recycled from old airplanes. I couldn’t resist putting together a photo essay of possibly the coolest airline office in the world. I’ll let you decide for yourself – have you seen anything cooler than this?

Volaris is a great airline for investors, customers & employees: and great culture is an important part. The cool office is an outcome of great people.

No surprise that Shashank figured this out.
