Delta has released a new Facebook application, Delta Ticket Window, which allows users to book a flight without leaving the cyber-comfort of their social network. The first of its kind, Delta expects a large portion of the 37,870 people who have already connected with the airline via Facebook to continue patronage through this new option.

Facebook is the top choice in website navigation on ground and air, according to Delta’s wi-fi provider. The airline has also made it clear that information provided is routed directly to Delta and not Facebook or a third party host. No additional charges are implemented when customers choose to book tickets this way.

Delta announcing its new feature on Facebook

Delta has found a way to balance the functionality of booking tickets with Facebook’s social profile. When users book tickets, the airline does the bragging for them: a status update automatically appears telling of the vacation destination. Also accessible for smartphones, it makes booking tickets on-the-go a part of checking Facebook and may leave people more inclined to do so in a pinch. There is no doubt that with online booking becoming the absolute go-to for flying, many airlines will choose to expand their host options into Facebook and perhaps Twitter. In the meantime, Delta is expected to release new iPhone applications for flight check-in, scheduling and status in the next few weeks.

Denise, who headed the Delta Ticket Window campaign says this of the organizations social media use:

“We are ready to unlock the full power of social media and mobile apps as we step to future technologies that will provide innovative travel tools and greater convenience in your mobile world”

Well said; we look forward to seeing more clever innovations from Delta Air!
