JetBlue has already made an appearance in Simpliflying’s Clever Airlines blog, but is worth mentioning again for their outstanding promotion-based account, JetBlueCheeps. This Twitter, separate from the main account, releases specific sales each Tuesday and surprises followers with other deals throughout the week.

The Cheep Tweets detail take-off and destination airports as well as the number of seats available for the sale, then linked to JetBlue’s website for booking. It seems that a promotion such as JetBlueCheeps appeals most to the business traveller or entrpreuner, looking for fast deals to mostly international airports. This demographic is a major part of the airline industry, exemplified in the 57,551 followers JetBlueCheeps has after only one year on Twitter. Furthermore, JetBlue works to incorporate the popular destinations of its customers, tweeted from all over the world.

How can you do the same?

Keep it SHORT. These tweets leave a lot to be said by JetBlue’s own website, which directs the majority of traffic to the mother site. Concise tweets should include the base price, destination and number of seats available.

Hold that date. JetBlue officially releases the Cheep sales on Tuesdays, but having surprise sales through the week encourages people to become followers. That way, such bargains will fill their home page with thoughts of the company.

Make it user friendly. Since Cheeps detail flight sales on short notice, they are targeting those on-the-go. It makes sense that both this Twitter account and JetBlue’s website should be made mobile friendly. This is a piece of advice which should span beyond such promotions as Cheeps- newer website programmers know how to compact data and images so they are effective on smartphones.
