[Roundup] Airlines take up the Ice Bucket Challenge. Which one’s your favourite?

Unless you’ve been completely disconnected over the past couple of weeks you know what’s coming up.

In fact, by now, the Ice Bucket Challenge is famous enough to merit its own Wikipedia entry. So yes, I’ll leave you to read that entry if you need to catch up. Instead, here’s a roundup of the best airline Ice Bucket Challenge videos that contributed to ALS awareness.

The Team Players

By now, quite undeniably, Ice Bucket Weariness is catching on, and the novelty is wearing thin. So let’s begin with some interesting videos with their own unique takes.

Southwest Airlines

Southwest is undeniably cool when it comes to marketing itself on social media, and this video is no exception, as an entire team gets drenched in one go. More on their blog.

The Money Spinner

Frontier Airlines

Frontier has put a unique spin on the initiative and thrown the gauntlet to its customers in a special one-day-only offer on their website.

O Captain! My Captain! (and Crew)

Two really cool captains and one flight attendant who took up the challenge in-flight!

Lufthansa

Finnair

We found two videos for Finnair! The second one is one of our favourites for being so sporting.

And the CEOs come marching in

A number of CEOs were gracious enough to accept the challenge and donate to the cause. We begin with two airlines that usually ruffle a lot of feathers.

Spirit Airlines

Ryanair

Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary, lived up to expectations of doing something different and completed the Ice Bucket Challenge, "being drenched with fourteen bins of water by eager Ryanair staff". It was reported that O’Leary’s soaking helped raised €10,000 for the Jack and Jill Foundation and afforded him the opportunity to nominate fellow airline chiefs Alexandre de Juniac of Air France, and Carsten Spohr of Lufthansa with a typical ribald O' Leary jab, which we preferred to not publish.

Alaska Airlines

Brad Tilden, CEO at Alaska Airlines, announced his participation via the official Alaska Airlines blog.

American Airlines

Doug Parker from American Airlines got splashed as well.

AirAsiaX

The CEO of AirAsia X is well-known for being socially savvy and quite a sportsman to boot.

Boeing

Ray Connor, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes joined the fray.

Since the challenge started catching on across social media in late July, it has raised more than $41 million for ALS, The New York Times reported recently. Which one of the videos above is your favourite? Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments or tweet to us @simpliflying.
