  6. Its Me 8 Said,

Let me put it this way, SimpliNotFlying. I have booked tickets on A380 flight from JFK to Dubai last Friday. 31st Oct 2008 11:00 PM. I was excited to feel the journey on new A380. I reached Airport on time almost 3 hours before flight scehduled time. To my surprise the carrier executives told that the flight is cancelled. I had to wait for 2 hours to know when the next flight is and any alternatives are arranged. At 9:30 they arranged transportation to hotel and told next day flight would start at 11:00 in the morning. I again came back to JFK on 1st Nov Morning and the flight is rescheduled to 11:30 (its a okay factor ..for me :) I checked in luggage and when I reached the gate to my surprise..guess what..??????

There is a Boeing 777 in place of AIRBUS 380, this is my experience with Emirates A380. I am going to return back on Nov 15th to JFK through the same “EXPECTING A A380″ this time. will write some more of my experience with this flight later.

  7. Shashank Nigam Said,

@Its me 8: Very interesting situation… I hope you at least get to fly back on the A380. Please leave a comment here if you do and share with us your experience.

I tried to find out online what had happened to your A380 flight, and it turns out that there was a technical glitch, and Emirates flew the plane back to Dubai the next morning for repairs (and hence you got the 777). Generally, in such cases, good airlines arrange for alternate flights, or at least give accommodation and food to the stranded passengers. From your story, it sounds like you were indeed given accommodation. I also found out that many passengers were sent on the Qatar Airways flight, but once it was full, the rest were sent to the hotel (turns out you were one of the unlucky ones). On the positive note, the B777 in-flight configuration for Emirates is almost the same as the A380, minus the showers and bar. So if you were flying economy class, not much difference. But would love to hear your return experience.
