[Presentation] Engaging Local Airport Communities and Achieving Business Objectives

Even before social media became top of mind, airports had long been working to engage their communities. Now, be it through fun local promotions, unique community partnerships and co-branded events or business and community engagement through local business leads, the opportunities for airport community engagement are growing with the onset of social platforms and tools.

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of being invited up to Appleton, Wisconsin to speak at the Great Lakes Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executive’s Annual Conference.  I was asked to speak on the topic of Community Engagement in Airports. What a fun and interactive session it turned out to be!

The session focused on identifying four objectives or segments for community engagement: Business Travel community, Community Leaders, Leisure Travelers and Route Development efforts.  By talking through each of these sections, we determined ways to engage local communities by discussing fun interactive campaigns and identifying ways to reach each of these target groups. While it was not solely a social focused presentation, the group also was delighted to learn that, with the introduction of social media, there are  now even more ways to take airport community engagement to the next level.

I’m sharing the presentation below so that you too can take a look at the various community engagement efforts by airports. (Click here if you can not view the Prezi below)
